Turbulence Call for Art

Turbulence – Ideas for movement is inviting proposals from visual/graphic artists of all kinds for its next issue, to come out in November 2009.

The issue, as yet untitled, has a general theme based on two questions: what, in the context created by the overlap of various crises (economic, ecological etc.), is the new middle ground of political debate? In other words, given that neoliberalism no longer can define the centre of the political spectrum in the way it once did, where can this centre be moving? And what, in the context of reactions to the present crises and the conflicts that contributed to causing it, can we identify as a new common ground of struggles?

We invite proposals of artwork, original or already existing, to help define the look of the issue. The submission may be as detailed as you wish: from just a sample of the work to a description of the concept you imagine for the issue. The proposals need not relate to the themes of the issue directly. Final art work would need to be submitted by no later than 1st September 2009, with drafts to be shown beforehand.

The selected individual or collective will be expected to collaborate closely with our graphic designer, and work to our production deadlines. Turbulence haven’t the resources to pay for the work, but it would make your work visible to a global audience of political and cultural activists.

Turbulence featured in the Serpentine Gallery’s ‘Manifesto Marathon’ in 2008.

The deadline for proposals is 1st July 2009.
